Description
Crospovidones use a combination of mechanisms for rapid tablet disintegration, unlike other superdisintegrants that rely solely on swelling. PVPP, with their porous particle morphology, absorbs water through capillary action and becomes deformed during tablet compaction. When deformed, they swell, causing rapid volume expansion and high hydrostatic pressures that cause tablet disintegration. Swell volume measures the change in volume after aqueous solution equilibrium, but it does not measure the rate of water absorption or pressure generated by swelling.
