Description
Crospovidone is a synthetic cross-linked polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) that is insoluble in water and operates through various processes, including swelling, wicking, and strain recovery. Its ability to swell without gelling is beneficial for tablets that dissolve orally. Crospovidone deforms under compaction force and absorbs water through capillary action. Disintegration is significantly influenced by particle size, with larger particles resulting in a higher rate. Increases in intra-particular porosity lead to more water absorption and quicker breakdown. Crospovidone grades vary in bulk density, hydration capacity, peroxide levels, and particle size distribution.
